Job Purpose:
The candidate will be required as a consultant to be responsible for a variety of maritime technical capability development research themes aimed at delivering real military benefit within the Expeditionary Logistic Support (ELS) domain. As part of our clients Defence Division the successful candidate will report to the Business Manager, Soldier Systems – Land & Air Sector
The role will be to
• Act as the point of contact for all maritime related tasks for ELS support.
• Deal with and manage client staff and external contractors on maritime tasks.
• Review, critique and comment on the quality and compliance of outputs
• Amass an understanding of the technical work being carried out on the maritime related activities of ELS.
• Provide technical advice to colleagues and external contractors on maritime logistic issues.
• Act as Task Manager for assigned maritime tasks.
• Work for other Task Managers on allocated maritime tasks. Inform the relevant Task Manager, in good time, of any issues or risks which threaten completion of the assigned work within the stated constraints; providing also ideas for ways to mitigate the issues or risks.
• Liaise and work with other companies, organisations and academia in the execution and completion of the assigned work
• Complete and deliver work to the required standard within the time and cost constraints on the assigned tasking.
• Report as required on the progress of assigned work.
Key Result Areas:
ELS Support work (80%)
• Work with staff, the customer community and external contractors.
• Engender good relations with all co-workers, whether within or external.
• Work within the limits and constraints on assigned tasks
• Deliver technical outputs of appropriate quality, on time and to cost.
• Ensure that inputs and outs of the work are properly recorded in the Company and project databases.
Project Management, to Include Customer Interfacing: (10%)
• Carry out project management work in compliance with the Company Management System.
• Produce project deliverables to budget and timescale.
• Schedule and attend project Reviews and progress meetings as appropriate to the project programme.
Bid and Enquiry Support: (10%)
• The candidate will be expected to seek out and propose ideas for new or additional work within the ELS domain or related areas.
• Lead bidding for proposals within the ELS domain or related work; producing bid documentation to budget and timescale; scheduling and attending Bid Reviews and Pricing and Approval meetings as appropriate to the bid scope and programme; assisting as required in the delivery and receipt for the Bid documentation at the specified place by the specified date and time.
• Support Bid Managers in accordance with their requirements in compliance with the Company Management System.
Training (if applicable)
• Experience of PRINCE 2 preferred
CADEMIC BACKGROUND
• MSc Defence Logistic Management ( desirable)
• First degree ( essential)
• Membership of a professional institution is preferred
SPECIFIC SKILLS
• To have skills and experience relating specifically to the maritime area of the ELS domain
• To have experience of formation logistic planning
• To be able to discuss and show understanding of the MoD research and procurement processes and organisations.
• To manage allocated budget and resources to meet agreed milestones and deliverables.
• To possess the level of skill of project and people management to act as a Task Manager.
OTHER
• The candidate will be required to travel for regular meetings with customers and external contractors, which covers the Central, Southern and South West of England. Visits away for more than one day may be required.
