OUR LARGE FORWARD THINKING CLIENT ARE LOOKING FOR PRESTIGIOUS, DEGREE QUALIFIED FLM'S IN VARIOUS AREAS, SKELMERSDALE / PETERLEE / CUPAR / LEICESTER / NEWARK /NOTTINGHAM / LINCOLN / COVENTRY / WARRINGTON / BOXFORD
What does FLM stand for?
FLM stands for Front Line Manager. As the name suggests it is the person who manages the Front Line teams in our factories, warehouses and depots and is responsible for how we make and move our product.
How many Front Line team members does an FLM manage?
This can vary considerably dependant on the site, the area and the current volumes but usually ranges from 10 to 50 (on average about 30)
Larger team sizes are usually driven by high levels of Agency employees supporting the team due to high volumes but these volumes can vary throughout the year
Who does the FLM report into?
FLM’s usually report into the Operations Manager, who in turn reports into the Site Leader, this drives quite a lean structure to aid decision making.
What are the main priorities in the role?
Our client is a very result driven culture but it’s not just what you achieve, it’s how you do it.
All our FLM’s have business and people objectives every year.
Business results are usually focused around our Key Result Areas:
• People (Safety)
• Quality
• Service
• Cost
Typical Key Performance Indicators would include the following:
People: Absence % and No. of Accidents
Quality: Consumer Complaints
Service: Volume fill
Cost: Waste and efficiency
People results are of equal importance and in this area we would ask our FLM’s to focus on the following:
• Talk to and really know your teams
• Have regular 1:1’s with your teams
• Inspire your teams through well run and enjoyable Team Meetings
• Motivate your team to improve their performance
• Communicate clearly and effectively
• Live our clients Values
How do I get to grips with the detail of the role?
We have developed a pack called the Functional Excellence Model (FEM) that describes the FLM role in detail, this has 3 key areas:
Managing the Basics
This describes the tasks and behaviours to tackle the basics of the role and covers cost, quality, service, people and effective communication
Engaging and Developing the Team
This describes the tasks and behaviours to drive performance and develop individuals and your team
Building a legacy
This describes the tasks and behaviours to leave a legacy if you move on; it illustrates how you can develop to be an FLM role model/coach for the future
The FEM is issued at the OpsAcademy
What can I expect when I join the business?
The FLM role is so critical to business success that there is quite a structured orientation in the role, this includes:
• Site Welcome
• Work alongside an FLM to see what good looks like
• Attend 5 day OpsAcademy programme – Our Clients Culture
• Attend 2 day OpsAcademy programme – Safety, Quality and Financial introduction
• Attend technical training optimisation course (Manufacturing only)
