JOB TITLE: Rotor Dynamics/Turbo machinery Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Reliability Engineering

SUMMARY OF MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To respond to / complete ad hoc specialist investigative work with existing and new clients associated with critical rotating machinery.

To provide a coaching role for consultants / engineers within the Reliability Engineering (RE) section, in order to raise the level of rotor dynamics/turbo machinery expertise within the Company.

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS
Develop high level technical relationship with client engineers.
Provision of high quality rotor dynamics service within a measured timescale.
Maximise financial return based on delivery of high level services to SKF client base

POSITION IN THE ORGANISATION:
Responsible/Accountable to: Principal Consultant /Team Managers(Reliability Engineering)
Direct reports: None
Works in conjunction with: AMS engineering personnel from all departments (RE, ME, CMC) at all levels

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As part of a Reliability Engineering Department, the rotor-dynamics specialist will be required as a minimum to provide the following ;

1. To be available and undertake call off/ad hoc specialist investigations at the request of existing and new clients both on and offshore as required.

2. To respond to such requests at short notice, when required.

3. To advise on the optimum configuration of both CM databases and online monitoring systems.

4. To provide an office-based coaching/mentoring role to other group/RE section members in order to enhance their level of technical expertise and introduce common approaches.

5. To participate in regular Senior Consultant forum meetings chaired by the Principal Consultant, to discuss and agree common technical approaches and disseminate knowledge.

6. To contribute towards the development of Quality Work Instructions (QWI’s) and technical training material as well as ensuring adherence and understanding of appropriate technical standards by all personnel.

7. To develop close working relationships with engineering personnel in Client organisations in order to grow confidence in company rotor-dynamics / turbo-machinery services.

8. To adhere to the Company’s Quality Assurance (QA) and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE procedures).

9. To continue to pursue personal development through self learning and to maintain knowledge of latest technologies and methodologies.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Degree qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with additional specialist experience/qualification in rotor dynamics or MSC rotor dynamics with field experience.
2. Hands-on experience in acquiring and analysing rotor data using multi-channel systems.
3. Ability to provide accurate and detailed reports which address client expectations.
4. Ability to complete multi-plane balancing of high speed flexible rotors.
5. Needs to have a good understanding of structural dynamics and Condition Monitoring technologies.
6. Desirable skills / knowledge:- Finite Element methods/modelling, Offshore knowledge, Oil & Gas processes.

Relocation packages can be provided if required, candidates would have to be willing to work offshore with some international travel possibly required.
